A portable pizza oven lets you cook restaurant-quality pizza at high temperature wherever you are — a garden, a campsite, a rooftop, or a small flat with no outdoor space. The best portable models are genuinely lightweight, pack down small, and still reach the 450–500°C needed for proper Neapolitan-style pizza in 60–90 seconds.

Best Overall: Ooni Koda 2
The Ooni Koda 2 is the standout portable pizza oven for most people. At 11.5kg with fold-flat legs, it genuinely goes in a car boot without drama. The dual UU-shaped burner gives more even heat distribution than previous Ooni gas models, reducing the need for constant rotation. It reaches 500°C, preheats in around 20 minutes, and cooks a 13-inch pizza in 60–90 seconds. Gas-only operation means no fire management, no ash, no complexity — just turn the dial and cook. Around £379 new.
Best for Wood/Fire: Ooni Fyra 12
The Ooni Fyra 12 is the lightest Ooni at 10.2kg and the only one that runs on wood pellets. The gravity-fed hopper makes fire management more approachable than a full wood-log oven, while still giving you real flame and a degree of wood influence. Good choice if the fire experience matters to you and you want something genuinely lightweight. Requires dry hardwood pellets and produces ash, so more maintenance than gas.
Best Multi-Fuel: Ooni Karu 2
The Karu 2 runs on wood and charcoal out of the box, with a gas burner attachment available separately. At 11.6kg it’s as portable as the Koda 2 with significantly more fuel flexibility. If you want to cook on gas at home most of the time but occasionally use wood at a campsite or for a special occasion, the Karu 2 covers all bases. The gas attachment adds ~£70 to the total cost.
Best Gozney Portable: Gozney Arc
The Gozney Arc at 9.9kg is the lightest of the mainstream portable ovens and the lightest in Gozney’s range. Gas-only, takes up to 12-inch pizzas, and uses Gozney’s flame-roller burner design for even heat. The Arc is slightly less insulated than the Roccbox, meaning it loses heat faster in cold or windy conditions, but for fair-weather portable use it’s an excellent choice. Around £299–£349.
Best Premium Portable: Gozney Roccbox
The Gozney Roccbox is 11.5kg but earns its weight with thick silicone insulation that keeps the exterior cooler and the interior more consistent. It performs better than lighter ovens in cold and windy UK conditions and maintains temperature more consistently in long cooking sessions. At ~£449–£499 it’s the most expensive portable option, but it’s genuinely better in adverse conditions.
What Makes an Oven Genuinely Portable?
Weight is the obvious factor but it’s not the only one. Legs that fold flat reduce pack size significantly. A carrying handle (all the above ovens have one) is essential. Gas hose storage — some ovens have integrated storage for the gas hose; others require it loose. And consider the gas canister: a standard 907g Campingaz canister adds another kilogram, while a larger propane cylinder gives more cook time but is heavier and bulkier.
None of the ovens above are truly backpacking-portable — if you’re hiking to a location, this category isn’t for you. But all fit comfortably in a car boot alongside equipment for a day out and can be set up in 5 minutes.
